An act of radical optimism

THE GOOD

The Good is a major solo exhibition by artist Anna Louise Richardson whose practice is centred around rural life, embedded in the experience and drama of everyday reality.

Opened at The Condensery in 2023, travelling nationally through Museums & Galleries NSW until 2026.

Curated by Rachel Arndt and Dr Lee-Anne Hall, The Good delves into themes of intergenerational exchange, parenthood, and identity, rooted in Richardson’s lived experience on a multi-generational beef cattle farm in rural Australia.

Richardson’s large-scale charcoal and graphite drawings depict familiar and domestic objects, each resonating with personal and collective meaning. These works reflect moments of connection and the complexities of rural life, exploring the intricate relationships between humans and the natural world, tinged by grief and the challenges of nurturing new life.

Complementing the artist’s work, Goldi designed the exhibition identity and publication, aiming to encapsulate the emotional depth and grounded nature of Richardson’s work and reflect the question ‘what is good?’, through simple typographic arrangements, contrast and earthy colours.

Goldi worked closely with Anna Louise to design a printed publication that reflects the quiet strength of the work. The exhibition publication, is printed on a uncoated stock folding down from a large format sheet into a pocket size piece. From the raw material palette to the understated typography, every detail was considered to support the exhibition narrative.
