A legacy interwined with Queensland history

THYNNE + MACARTNEY 130 YEARS PUBLICATION

To celebrate 130 years of continued practice, Goldi designed a hard cover publication telling the history of the Brisbane’s oldest law firm, “Thynne + Macartney – The First 130 Years.”

Written by historian Carmel Carrick, the story of Brisbane’s oldest law firm is intertwined with major historical events in Brisbane and Queensland.

Based on interviews with past and present partners and staff, as well as significant research into the early days of the firm, the book is an engaging read and visual stimulus.

The book design draws on firms brand identity with it’s colour palette and cross graphic, but stands strong in it’s own design with a mix of old and new with vivid sepia and colour photography, feature quotes and sky blue title spreads to denote the chapters.

Full page historical images and nostalgic examples of old case files are a stand out feature of the book, and bring the intriguing stories from the firms prolific history to life.  The cover design features an image of Brisbane’s great flood in 1893—the same year that the firm commenced.

“Two Irishmen crossed oceans and a religious divide to build a legal practice and a legacy intertwined with their adopted homeland and the lives of generations of Queenslands.”

Each chapter of the 190 page publication demonstrates the law firm’s central role in the history of Queensland. It includes the roll out of electricity, signing of the constitution, cathedrals for the Catholic Church, growth of the University of Queensland and many significant political events.

Special thanks to The Honourable Paul de Jersey AC CVO KC who wrote the inspiring foreword to the book and The Honourable Margaret McMurdo AC who shared documents and articles from her father’s time as a partner at the firm.
