Volatile Terrain marks the debut of Harvest Biennial—an exhibition series held every two
years at The Condensery, focused on ecological themes and concerns local to the Somerset region.
Human activity maps our world, alters topography, creates pathways, destroys habitat, builds infrastructure, mines the Earth’s crust, and moulds the landscape. Volatile Terrain explores the intersections and divergences of geography and geology, with consideration to a world in constant flux.
The exhibition provides an opportunity to examine how humanity lives on Earth, as well as interacts, destructs and rehabilitates it. The focus is hyper-local and responsive to the Somerset region.
We introduced a visual language inspired by ebb and flow, symbolising the shifts, tensions and richness of the Somerset region. A custom title font and earthy palette set the tone, and respond to the theme.
Each new edition of the Biennial will carry its own environmental focus, and the identity will respond accordingly, bringing together design, art and community with purpose.
